This is Hartshead Pike overlooking Ashton-Under-Lyne, Greater Manchester. Although I wasn't able to include it in this scene, you can actually see the centre of Manchester itself from up here with the Beetham tower visible on a clear day like today.
I followed the 'classical' rules of composition; using the rule of thirds to anchor the tower and make it my focal point, reinforced by the path as a lead in line. Quite basic really, but which works well in this scene. Then, Just a case of using photoshop to tone and saturate the image to my minds eye!
Used two exposures (land + sky) converted in lightroom and combined in CS2, with various adjustment layers to suit!
Unlikely to do anything as well as my last entry (The day slips away), but I like it! It has an emotional connection, as I grew up around these parts and it was nice to make a return to my old 'stomping' ground!!!

This is absolutely gorgeous. I like the way the walk-way leads the viewer to the city. |

An interesting and pleasing scene. The curved leading line moving diagonally across the photo works well. For me the horizon is a little too central - I wonder if you could have foregone some of the sky and placed the horizon closer to the top third? |
