My first attempt at "creative".
In camera raw, white balance, contrast, vibrance & hue.
In CS3, curves, unsharp mask, crop, frame & save for web.
Remote SB800 from above + pop-up on camera, on glass with white felt under.

Having experimented with toothpaste shots in the past, I appreciate how much trouble it is to get a glob of thick paint to have enough definition and variation to be interesting. This image makes me want to play around with paints.

Very good. I love the silvery look and the reflection, also the focus is excellent. I hope you don't mind a small nitpick: I wish you'd cleaned up the tube nozzle.

I had a pic that could go in either challenge too :) I wish the object here was more off-center and that the dark line/area in the back wasn't there.
