The photo is a simple shot of a single incense smoke take with a sb600 flash on camera left side. Patience is the only trick :)

Awesome job with the smoke capture! I gave it an "8", one of my top 5! Basic editing makes these shots kinda tough but my only suggestion would be that you could get rid of some of the noise in the black part by boosting the black levels to around 10. Congrats on your ribbon!

This is beautiful. My only suggestion would be maybe to crop so just the right side (the right-most 3 swirls) are in the frame. The lighter swirls aren't as well detailed.
