 I used some tips from the 'Smoke Photography' tutorial on DPC. I didn't have a way to shoot with my flash off camera, so I ended up taking the flash off camera and firing the flash at about 90 degrees to the camera. I fired it independently while leaving my shutter open for 3 seconds so I could coordinate the flash, smoke movement, etc.

Not exactly the sharpness I was looking for due to the long shutter speed, but it came off basically as planned. Hoping for at least a mid 5 score - but we will see. This is another week where I would not have entered had it not been for DPC-O.

Editing:
RAW image opened in Elements RAW converted - increased clarity, adjusted exposure and WB. As JPEG, adjusted hue/saturation, noise ninja, selective colors, curves. Crop with slight rotation to make horizontal. Resize for web. Noise Ninja and hue/sat adjustment post resize.

Very pretty and soft, which is such a contrast off of the cigar. Nice and quite cool.

I expected this to do better. No matter what the score I think this is a shot to be proud of. I really like the grit and glow.

Better photo than other cigar entry. I especially like the attention to detail of the cigar leaf itself, nice job with the lighting. Though the feel is much more ominous and seems to convey a negative feeling towards the subject, a subject that I am very fond of, I still give you credit to a shot well planned and executed.

It's a good shot, no problem. The lighting is a bit harsh for me. Could be cool to see the tip of the nose of the smoker, but stop I begin to ramble...

it would have been typical if you didnt inclue the cigarette, but the cigarette makes it original. i love it.
