 My butterfly bush has been overrun with Monarchs all of a sudden (I counted 8 yesterday but only 2 today, so they may be leaving for the winter). The Monarchs invariably land on the underside of a flower and work their way around. I just waited till this one opened his wings a bit and got what I was after. I thought it was cute that he wasn't holding on with the one foot.

I know I used a butterfly for the last Upside Down challenge ... just being consistent ;-)

Had the 36mm teleconverter on, late afternoon light.

PP - cropped, levels, shifted greens greener and decreased saturation on them, increased saturation on everything else, increased contrast, resized, sharpened with slight noise reduction.

The colours are awesome, nice and vibrant, fits challenge well IMHO.

I personally would have preferred a larger dof on the wings I think, maybe thats what hurt you a bit but as fir all the 1-3's????? I didn't vote but would have given this a 6 or 7

Wonderful macro, but unfortunately the composition is a little strong for me, I think I would have preferred a little more flower at the top bringing the butterfly down to create a thirds split across the screen.
