Another one of my Elephant Beetles coming from a different angle, but still on the textured seedpod grass stick. Both images were captured while he was doing his slow walk along the seedpod grass stick, and still 'hissing' at me all the time.

Size about 1 to 2 inches long.

Both images were shot on my back veranda with two side gully opened to the light coming from the right side and also from the front, behind me the photographer.

I use scrapbooking square pastel apricot soft textured card as the backdrop, for the colors to blend in with the seed pod autumn color tones.

I have a huge collection of different colored smooth, textured, patterns, abstract, and even velvet card that I use as backdrops.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy..... Even if you do not like bugs.

Yes, I always carry a water spray bottle, especially for insects. It often wakes them up, but is also refreshes them, and it can often give a nice effect. This one really let me have it when I sprayed him, as he hissed at me, often.....

I also use it for plants and flowers in case they wilt.

Oh my gosh, Shez, this is excellent! Fascinating fellow and you did an exceptional job of capturing him in his native habitat - brilliant idea to stick the card behind for the backdrop, too.

I like yersterday's shot better. It seems like on the other one, the bug is coming out of the picture. Here it's moving square in front of your lens. Also the smooth surface, not interupted by water drops is more characteristic for the bug.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great shot with strong good colors and good sharpness. I just like the other one more :)

Shez I love this shot. The water drops and just a tad more detail in his head are fantastic. I wish we had these things around here in Vt. I would have way too much fun shooting these guys.

Amazing - I never saw this kind of beetle before. For me the water droplets make it even more interesting.

The water is an interesting addition, but I think I like the smooth shell better. And there seems to be more texture in the fur on the first one. This is very nice, but my vote is for Mr. Elephant Beetle.

P.S. The seed pods are much nicer in this shot -- rich color and clear focus, but since the beetle is the primary subject, I'll still go with #1.
