The lone late-evening patron of a doughnut shop on West 14th Street called The Donut Pub.

Taken handheld from across the avenue at lens' full (200mm equiv) focal length, f/5.6, 1/40 second. Once again I had the ISO cranked *way* up.

PP: Uncropped, rotated 90 degrees only. I usually edit in Paint Shop Pro because I'm more familiar with it, but I opened this JPG in camera raw in CS3 so I could more easily adjust the exposure (recovery) for the blown out areas. Also used auto curves function. Dodged the man's jacket and (a bit sloppily) the chrome under the seats.

Reposted after light sharpening.

Additional note: no noise reduction used.

This really stood out in your thumbs and is a great find, nicely photographed.

That really does have an Edward Hopper feel. Great job. The mood is well captured by the posture of the person and the lighting.

Ahhhh...so this is where people from the University of Texas go pee.

So Hopper-esque it hurts. I love it.

This is wonderful - I really like it. I love the sense of isolation and loneliness it creates. Very well seen and captured, and nice work for hand held, too.

This has a good Americana feel to it -- alone late at night in the city that never sleeps. Great neon colors.

very poignant shot - simple, direct, a bit sad - outstanding

Beauty. I am so taken with the posture of the man and the way his coat drapes over his back and falls almost skirtlike around the stool. Beautiful colour, wonderful framing and composition - everything Saker has said.

Really like the shot. The neon colors but also there's something about the way the patron is sitting that brings lots of different feelings and possible stories to mind.

A great reference to the painting - it fits - the guy looks to be praying to the altar of his God - the colors are phenomenal - the glow on the chairs, the lettering in the sign, the texture in his coat, it looks like a painting.. If this was a challenge I can't believe you wouldn't end up in the top three.

Great composition, and a wonderful moment. Did you do any noise reduction?

Tend to agree with you, there's no point just taking pics of anything, it has to be something that has some interest to you. this is an interesting shot.
