Red and orange pepper, swimming in mineral oil. Yes, it was my first, and no, next time I'm going without the oil, or just a dab, instead of half the bottle!
Single flash reflected off a white umbrella. Went with a long exposure to capture the peppers nice and crisp at f/11. RAW conversion in Aperture with a slight bump in exposure, then CS3 for levels, curves, custom BW layer for contrasting peppers, curves, levels, resize, sharpen, border, save for web.
I'm quite happy with this still life, as I have difficulty with composition and effective lighting. I'm much more comfortable shooting children and babies.
I think the oil will keep this from scoring well, i.e. over 6.
POST: Well, I'm surprised! I totally over did the mineral oil, and preferred versions without the oil, but the compositions were lousy. Thanks for the comments. |

Sweet. Southwest DPCO sure did a bang up job for the first week. 6th out of 237 is simply awesome! |

Congrats on a great score! I like the slick shiny stuff. That really helps it stand out from the background. |

Did you coat these with oil? Very luscious looking peppers. |

Excellent subjects and well captured. I like the glossy look and overall composition although there are some jagged borders. It conveys the colors very well. |

Good choice of the subject. The shine on the peppers are too artificial for my taste. |
