 Marbles on glow sticks. I'm quite happy with this one regardless of what happens in the voting process.

I struggled with the title. An expression of empathy was my target but my fear has been that some DPC speed voters will not understand this shot if it's not spelled out in a long title (i.e. Empathy: Refracting the emotion of those around you). I decided to risk not having an explanatory title because I think it would be crass, particularly on an abstract. So, I'll title it with one word and hope I did a good enough job for people to see it.

Editing involved a great deal of healing/cloning out imperfections on the surface of the marbles. Other than that I just increased the contrast w/curves, resized and saved for web. (no sharpening as I didn't want any jaggies on the border of the marbles)

~~~9pm on the last night of voting & I'm going to bed. Looks like this won't break 6, but I really appreciate the comments I've gotten as they've made entering this challenge worth while (and I am happy with the picture too).

Grats on your top 20 John. I have to admit i didn't get it but after reading your comment it makes sense. Very well thought out. Great image.

6 - Nice colors - like to have seen a little more clarity/crispness at the fore. Like your title and I think this image conveys a sense of it - maybe a little more context in this instance... maybe. Up from 5.

What? I don't understand what you are trying to say. What state of mind are you in. Maybe I should stand in your shoes for a moment then I will get it. I'm changing my score from 6 to 10 - excellent for the challenge. I hope others look up the meaning of the word.

I love it that you have addressed 'abstract' and 'emotion'. So many entries have ignored one or the other, some even both. This is a lovely shot.
