 Used natural light because my strobes are out of commission until I can get a new receiver.

I used black, blue and gray eyeshadow combined with black eyeliner to make the shiner.

This is fantastic -- unique concept, and this kid photographs excellently. :) I'm assuming the black eye isn't real though -- what kind of make-up did you use?

For me personally it feels a bit too staged. If you had the black eye and a smile or or straight face it would have had more effect. But that is me. Nice shot either way, good lighting and nice DOF.
