 The picture with the regular colors looked simple and uninteresting. Using only adjustemt layers, I played with the levels, saturation, contrast and selective colors. I loved the result and I think people either will love it or hate it.

I don't like that strange edit much, I love the cut-in-half look of the person and the vibrant background, I just find the edit you've used a bit unappealing.

I dunno if the washed out eyes and hair fall under basic editing but even so it doesn't look very good. The composition is good and the blue background is great but the grayed out areas spoil the image.
