Back to comment: Safety is a tough subject for a challenge and I can see how you think this image fits the challenge. Hopefully, the DNMC Police don't hit you too hard, as the connection doesn't hit you over the head.
I do have a couple of suggestions to improve this image. First the image has a flat look to it. Bumping the gamma in levels would boost the mid-tones and a curve layer with a S-curve would help boost the contrast and the saturation. Your image also looks a little soft. When an image is downsized for a challenge, it looses sharpness. Most people use Unsharp Mask (USM) after downsizing. If you have Photoshop try USM with a Radius of 0.75 - Amount 75% - Threshold of 3 to bring the sharpness back.
Even with these corrections and a stronger connection to the challenge topic, this image would score in the low 5's at best. The subject you choose is pretty common and most people would give it a quick look, click 5 and move on.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions on post processing.

The image is somewhat blurry but I like the look of the small squirrel beside the large tree.
The colours are weak and the image is a bit dull due to this. 3/10 |

The pic is a bit out of focus; the idea is fair enough. The idea that the squirrel is burying his nuts to keep them safe would've been effective here too. I think if you could've cut out some of the tree and been closer to the squirrel, it would've helped the photo. Nice effort though. |
