Holy under-rated photo batman! Perhaps the voters were looking for more obvious depth of field (although I would consider ANY macro shallow DOF). Still, congratulations on a fantastic photo with great lighting, composition, and sharpness. Hope to see more of these in the future. |

as disgusting of an insect, its a really great photo.
you know how to please the eye by using the rule of thirds and lighting techniques. |

I could be wrong here but because it's a shallow DOF I would guess that only portions of this little critter should be in focus. Even though it's macro about 40% of this frame is in focus. Just my thoughts. Hope it helps. |

Great macro and impressive how much of the bloodsucker is sharp! Not sure I want to know what this background actually is, but at least you didn't give us a 'sucker on someone's skin' shot. The high contrast with the background makes this particularly striking. |

I don't think I have ever seen such a detailed photo of a mosquito. It's very interesting. |
