Jarod's Tear

You brought the colour into our life
You stayed only a while
Your eyes said it all
Your mouth continued to smile
And yet, I can see when you stopped laughing

You collected feathers and shared them with me
They were our special times, they always will be
Butterflies flocked to you, they knew you were special
You were hurting inside, I could feel your pain.
I tried to make them listen, but all in vain.

And then one day, I woke in the morn but there was no sun.
You were gone, I was ripped apart.
Your body lay, your smile gone.
But inside of me, it will never be day.

The weeks have gone, I am still here.
I see a feather down near my feet.
My tears slide down my cheek
The butterflies come near.

Yesterday was hard
Tomorrow is going to be harder
I have to write the words down
When they hurt, they hurt

Today I awoke and saw the calendar
Your 25th birthday is today.
You are not here, but I can feel you
I keep my chin up, I have to.

The words keep coming
I know where they are from
I have to do it for him
I have to do it for me

Make sure the words don't hurt him
the way they hurt me
I need to write, it's strong enough
It might make a difference
It's so hard

I walk out the door to take a break
The sun is shinging, the birds are quiet
Across my path I see a butterfly
I follow those wings

The butterfly stops down on the ground
Lying next to him lays a feather
A feather from your wings
On the gentle strands lies one tear
A tear from Jarod

A single tear falls from me
it lands near your tear
The feather tilts and moves your tear to mine
Together they meet and unite

You sent me this message to say
'Although I am gone
I will always be near.
I am in your heart
I am in your tears.

Be strong Mum
I love you dear
I left the pain
And feel at ease

The angels are here
and I am one of them
I look down over you
I will guide you through

When you are down
Look for the feather
We shared that moment
and we will share again

Until your day comes
I will wait
and until then Mum,
please live your life
for both of us."

Judi,
This poem made me weep. It is such a sad tribute to what could have been.
Thank you for posting.
Becky
eta: Your photo is brilliant. Should have scored higher.

Thankyou. And in answer to a couple of PM's...yes, those are my words with a few words thrown in that were said by the mother of Jarod. and yes...it is a true story. And the day I photographed the image and wrote the words would have been his 25th birthday.

What an amazing women there is under your facade of strength, as well as the photo being awesome creating a shallow dof on white, the words are a 10 from me for giving them a true meaning of the photo.

what a tough shot to do. I have to hand it to you nice attempt on this and the exposure is pretty good. It is missing something though and I can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps closer up on the tear drop / different angle?

Interesting, nice soft shadows. Somehow this reminds me of The Neverending Story, though I can't say why really.

This is waaaaaay too overexposed. I presume this was the intention but it didn't work for me.
