Couple of feet I'd say. This was a pretty tight crop of what I started with. But for some of the other photos I took, I was right in there with them, and it was a little disconcerting having them buzzing all about me.
Ah, the stupid things we do for DPC! |

Thanks to all for the ribbon and wonderful comments, although I'd sure like to know what possessed someone to vote 1 or 2. What could I have done differently for you to have at least bumped me up to a friendly 3? ;-P
As I recall, it was quite windy that day and everything was moving around quite a bit, including the flower which was on the end of a long stalk. Lucky to snap this one.
Had a difficult time deciding between this and many others, including:
Thanks for looking.

How did you do that?!!! Great shot -- such clarity. And I like the composition and light. I also like the way the bee on the flower has his legs out, warning off the other bee. |

The DOF here is indeed VERY shallow, but 90% of the subject falls within that shallow plane. Well done and I expect this to be in the top 20. |

Great capture! Very cool to see the arms (legs) held backwards like that. I didn't know they could bend that way. |

Very nice shot. Only thing I think that would make it better would be to crop away some of the green on the left filling more of the picture with you subject. 8 |

Bonus points for sharp focus on a moving subject!!! And I love the colors. The beautiful silky-smooth green contrasts well with the yellow on the bee and the red in the flower.
I'll be voting up those images that illustrate DOF, and voting higher those which have a sharp focus, and higher still those which have both a foreground and background element to illustrate DOF. |
