 A young male ruby throated hummingbird. You can see that he is just starting to get his red throat. These birds never cease to amaze me and are truly little angels. Fun facts, they beat there wings about 53 times a second, their hearts beat about 600 times a minute and will consume about two times their body weight a day in the form of spiders and bugs. They are not quite angelic to each other though and are highly territorial and aggressive having dogfights in the air and chasing others away from their food sources. I didn't get to shoot much this month and shot this on the last day of the month while grilling some steaks in the backyard. Probably won't do great but I hope to pull a low six.

What is it with hummingbirds? Is it a North American DPC right of passage or something? This is good capture of one but the patterns in the bg dont acentuate the bird
