Challenge: The Road Less Traveled (Basic Editing)
Camera: Nikon D1X
Lens: Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II for Nikon
Location: Ringwood State Park, NJ
Date: Aug 23, 2008
Aperture: F/32
ISO: 160
Shutter: 1/4 sec.
Date Uploaded: Aug 26, 2008

Shot at around 6:00 in the afternoon with a tripod and alot of trips from the camera to where I sat to get it right. Photo taken as in camera JPEG, used photoshop to adjust levels and hue and saturation to get the duotone effect then minor smart sharpen then added border. Camera white balance is sunlight and an exposure comp. of -0.7 EV. Used the timer on the camera to give myself some time to get into position.

i am not sure this qualifies as basic editing

Looks like it's selectively desaturated - basic editing?

I'm not a big fan of partial desats but I do like the idea and composition of this image. 7

It can't be legal (looks like selective desat to me) but it's not my place to question. It's a great idea and will probably do well if not dq'd. I think it might have been better without the person. As is stands, I'll score it an 8.

very interesting to have done this shot with the main subject being b&w and foreground subject in colour

This is a great shot but did it comply with the basic editing rules? It looks like you converted to B&W then did localized editing to bring the color back in the individual. I could be wrong about both but this shot leaves me wondering. Otherwise... This is a really good photo.

good perspective. the selective saturation doesn't do anything for the image IMO.

I like the composition, texture and tones. But this would have worked better without the selective desat. It needs to be done perfectly (which you can't do in Basic Editing) to be affective. There is bleed on the left shoulder, shorts pockets and t-shirt. I know I would have scored it a lot higher without the desat.

Not liking the desat here - serves no purpose that I can see.

Quite effective desat and I really like the long view. The title fits, too.

I like it but not the selective saturation. Nice leading line and focus.
