So, last Monday on our way to Longwood Gardens, I told Bev that this week's member challenge was horses. She was thrilled. It would mean she would get to see some old friend's of hers from when she worked for the Philadelphia Trolley Works (PTW).

See PTW runs the Big Bus, PTW tour buses, and carriage tours. Bill is one of the carriage horses and also is one of the horses used when the PTW carriage hearse is used in a funeral. He is a big horse, probably a quarter horse. I took several shots of Bill and his stable mate, Teddy (sorry that's their names, I swear) both separately and together. It was rather low light and I was using ISO-400 but should have gone to 800. I just hate high ISO for some reason. This was the clearsest shot I got with the most detail.

Post: Camera Raw adjustments in PSElements 6.0. Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. Adjust sharpness (first time I used this and I think I'll use it some more....not sure if it is legal for basic....have to find out....works similar to USM but I think it works better). New layer of levels. Gradient map layer converting to Black and White (I would have preferred color but I could not get rid of a yellow color cast). Back to the layer adjustment level and made adjustments in each of the red, green and blue channels. Flatten image. Cloned out some small distractions beneath Bill's neck and by his nose. Crop. Resize. Adjust sharpness.

Just a guess I'd say Bill is a Belgian and not a QH, but not important, still a great shot.

Very fine black and white. Works well with the background and with a horse named Bill.

There's something in this that looks like noise to me. Maybe not, but his right ear either twitched very quickly or a noise reduction pass blurred/softened it out.

Always nicer to shoot them without the halter on, but I recognize that you may not have had that choice!
