I wasn't there to vote or see this when the challenge was on, but reading your explanations, I find this very well thought out and executed. In French, my first language, people are green with fear, or cold. Maybe many people's first language is not English? Anyhow, this is very intense and interesting.

I liked this shot a lot - very well created. I had to look it up too, so kudos for making me learn something and making the shot interesting enough that I cared to find out :)

Hope your wife is feeling better now

For those of you that wondered how the shot was done, here goes: First we froze about a 1 inch thick slab of ice in a baking pan, then laid that on top of a glass end table. We did use a little green food coloring in the ice, and the tabletop had a green cast as well. Then my Wife was kind enough to flail about under the table trying to look like a totured soul ... Cocytus is a frozen river/lake in Hell. In Dante's Inferno its where traitors like Cain and Judas were punished for their sins of envy (hence the GREEN cast) by being trapped under the ice. Most of the green color was photoshop.

I didn't expect a lot of folks to get it, and I had hoped it would be better recieved than it was. What surprised me was that, green as it was, so few were able to make the connection to ENVY. Go figure.

The shot is cool... but I really can't tell what is really going on (or how it relates to sin). The face is slightly too obstructed to be able to make out the expression well enough.. a little more clarity might help. However, it's a very interesting idea and I like the shot and composition in general. 7 wingy

It's hard to rate a photo you don't like, doesn't appeal to you, doesn't grab you eye, or you don't understand. Not necessarily your problem so much as mine. This one fits all of them You might have been better off if I hadn't voted. But to be fair felt I should pit each photo against all.

You're making me learn! I didn't know what/where cocytus was until I read this title. Really good effct shot. It's hard to view, but the title offers forgiveness to this. I like the idea, so 7 is your score. Swash

Fantastic execution, but I'm not seeing a link to a specific Sin here.

The green gives it an interesting feeling. I must admit, I had to look it up "cocytus" to understand what you meant, so if nothing else your picture taught me something. :-) It is very eerie looking. karmat

The deepest, well thought, inivative shot I've seen so far... While not specific to any 'one' of the seven sins, it is the consequence of all of them. Also the green gives a 'feel' that envy was this sinner's bane. Wonderful shot (and I'm guessing grossly misunderstood by many voters). You should definitely be proud of this one. ~ MyQyl ~

My own interpretation of this would be the victim is drowning in his own suffocating envy...I have no idea what Cocytus means. With that in mind...great image...somewhat disturbing but effective. 8 Lisa

Great shot but, what does the river Cocytus and its punishment for the unburied have to do with the 7 deadly sins?
