Hi Judy,
Thanks for the feedback.
I tried so many variations of this shot it wasn't funny.
In order to get the details by being close enough, the angles changed. To step back and compress the shot would have meant standing out on a busy street.
I cropped and rotated and cropped and rotated until I was sick of looking at this picture (LOL) and keeping withing the basic editing constraints, it's was the best combination.
Regards, |

Hello from the Critique Club!
Who hasn't hoped to get something good in the mail? I think this is a great shot for the challenge.
Technically, My first impression is that it's very good....clear focus and nice depth to the colors. I'm assuming you probably tried different angles. I would like to see how a more "straight on" angle to the mailboxes, looking up to include the street sign might have worked. With this one, the sign just seems a bit far away from your main subject - the boxes. I would have fooled around with the angles to try to get an illusion of the sign being closer.
Good job!
I hope this has been helpful. |

I like this composition although I don't find the street sign with the word "Hope" really makes a strong enough statement that it couldn't have been left out in lieu of tighter framing of the mail boxes which are what really make this a compelling image. I imagine the serendipity is in the alignment of "Hope" and the mail boxes. Hoping for some good news? I guess it works on that level but I'm not sure I would have gotten there without the hint from the title. |

I don't know about serendipity, but the picture is great. The line of mailboxes waiting for something to be put in and the hope sign just work well together. Nice color/composition too. |

I love this photo - it's great. The only thing I would change is to make the background a little less distracting - for example, remove the powerlines and cars in photoshop (which, of course, isn't allowed in the challenge). Other than that, this could easily be a commercial photograph. Good job. |

The title throws me. I'm just not getting serendipity here. |

Not sure of the message here...Subject being the mail and hope-the sign? I like the repetition of the mailboxes. |

Humorous qualities... Serendipitous that so many are living on Hope street? Dunno... Kind of a stretch. But it could be relevant because not too many ppl I know take their camera with them to check the mail.
I like that it has a 'real' feel to it. |

Not really appealing from a subject matter perspective, but very well executed photographically. And it tells a story, I love that. I can almost envision the owners of each mailbox and hear them explaining what good news they hope the next mail delivery brings. High marks. Well done. |

Maybe it's hope (cool juxtaposition of the sign) , but it seems a stretch to be serendipity--nothing is shown to be "found." |
