Challenge: Woody II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd
Location: My bedroom
Date: Aug 11, 2008
Aperture: F/4.0
ISO: 64
Shutter: 1/286 second
Galleries: Emotive, Still Life
Date Uploaded: Aug 11, 2008

I photographed my woody in a red dress, printed the picture of 'her' out and put it in a frame. I set it in front of a white backdrop and positioned 'him' in front of it, then shot it, cropped it and finally lowered the brightness just a wee bit.

This is my first submission to DPchallenge.

I can't add much to what other commentors have already said. The conception is brilliant, the execution -- well, that comes with practice. Controlling light can be tough. I shoot mostly outdoors for that reason. When I do shoot indoors, I usually resort to poor man's lighting: the sun. Natural light offers tons of possibilities ( MelonMusketeer suggested it also I see), so keep it in mind for next time.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

A smoother background, like a big sheet of construction paper, or poster board would help this. Everyone is talking about your on camera flash in your challenge images comments. You should try shooting with light coming through a window with a light curtain to diffuse the light sometime, and see how much better your indoor shots will look.
Good luck, and keep shooting. That's the way to learn the craft of photography that you are so interested in. I feel that you would get a lot more out of DPC if you can afford to become a member so that you can take advantage of the side challenges and put up a portfolio to get comments and to learn about shooting great images.

only problems i find are the shadowf from the flash used, but once you figure out yuor lighting sources, you can really make these sorts of shots work. great job and have fun here on dpc!

Very cute idea! Great job for first challenge. Lighting is a bit harsh, but I myself haven't gotten the hang of lighting yet! Good luck!
