I don't think I've ever seen a butterfly's face in such sharp contrast to its body. Such a cool perspective. REALLY like this :-) |

This is so funny! Looks like you startled the little guy and he poked his head up to see what was going on. This image has plenty to tell and look at. Just great! |

hey maggie .. BRILLIANT .. as it was scrolling down i was liking the yellow flowers and then all of a sudden A BUTTERFLY .. excellent .. love how you've got his little face so sharp .. its a brilliant image ..
i havent done anything with flowers in the last few days .. its been so windy here .. really hard to get anything in focus .. sorry i havent been making any comments either .. feeling a bit uninspired .. i'd love to catch a butterfly like you have in this image .. they're pretty flighty creatures .. getting close to them can be pretty difficult .. WELL DONE .. !!..:)
i was meaning to make some comments in our flower side today, but now i've got family stuff and i dont think i'll have time .. thought i'd like to come see wot you've been doing tho so i came straight to your portfolio ..
maybe should'v written most of this in a pm ... silly me .. !!.:) |

By the DOF, I am guessing that this was shot at about f5.6? The DOF with the 100mm at closest focus is only about 1/8 inch when it is wide open, and is only about an inch at f8. The butterfly is almost an illusion to me about which way it is turned, but the legs indicate that it is facing away from the camera. In any case, I like the colors a lot, and the composition is pleasing with the crossed green stems.
With such shallow DOF, it's sometimes very difficult to decide exactly where to put the focus point, and even more so when there is any breeze at all. |

This is fun. It's colorful, cheery, and the butterfly's face & antennae are sharp. |

Coreopsis? I love the depth on this image. The color of the flowers and the contrast. Lovely!

Very spring like, and I love the softness, the detail, the butterfly, and the colors. |

What beautiful flowers and the butterfly is gorgeous. I wonder if it just needs a tiny contrast boost, you know what you could try. Duplicate the background layer, and then change the layer blending mode to soft light. Adjust the opacity slider to your taste. I think it's quite a quick and easy way to boost contrast without having to fiddle with curves/levels. |
