Taken by my house in the Battery. Its a very tall lamp post with high powered lights to illuminate the harborfront at night.

I didn't like the level of silhouette I got in the photo, so I created a selection of the object and in a new layer filled it with black. I then lowered the opacity of the black layer until I liked what I saw.

Anyone who complains about this does not understand the nature of DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY. If I need a photo for a certain purpose, part of how I can and will achive that will be in the digital photolab of Photoshop.

The fact of the matter is, through digital photography and digital post processing, I created what I feel is an attractive silhouette. The photograph is still the essential element - without it there would be nothing. I merely used the available, and professionally standard tools to enhance the photograph and create the desired look within it.

Greetings from the CC, well, I think your shot lacks wow, and emotion. I think it is somewhat flat. I understand you were trying to use negative space, but IMO the neg. space does not help to highlight or strengthen the overall shot. You will probably disagree, but just my suggestions, feel free to disregard it.
I think choice of subject is a hard decision to make as a fotog who wants to do something unique and yet perhaps appeal to a lot of people (or at least a variety of dpc voters)
keep shooting : )

This is a very cool shot that should have scored better, in my view. I ranked it a 7. Well done.

I like this idea. I think you executed it well, too. To me it would have had more impact had you extended your negative space more to the sides rather than top to bottom. The effect produced (IMO) would have been to reinforce the horizontal aspect of your silhouetted subject. I like the placement you selected in the composition.

top of a light pole I think? I like the idea of the lights pointing down, and being cut off unexpectantly. Perhaps at a different time of day would have made it more interesting where you can get a gradual hue in the sky, again tempting the eyes downward. 7

Very interesting silhouette. To my eyes, it has a bit too much negative space.

Meets the challenge but doesn't hold interest.

I must admit you used the negative space to perfection!! I had to look at this for some length of time to appreciate it. Great job!!

Too much negative space for me. Can't tell what it is.
