hand of Adam: left, my hand.
hand of God: right, jonnyB.
with sun in between. Diffraction caused by small aperture. Also used a UV filter, Neutral Density 4 filter and a Polarizer.

"This photograph depicts Michealango's famous painting, “The Creation of Adam”. This interpretation of the 7th day of creation adopts silhouetting as a tool for keeping both hands anonymous, as God’s physical form should not be represented. The sun, diffracted between both fingers to create the star effect, implies a snapshot of a miraculous event: the beginning of humankind."

post-processing:
Cloned out some trees, a lot of contrast enhancement on many levels, sligthly increased size of right hand main finger.

Hello from the critique club!

Knew right away (obviously) that this was from the sillhouettes challenge. That's always a good sign - definitely meets the challenge.

I really like the creativity of this shot. The positioning of the hands and use of the light is perfect I think. Good use of your filters to even out the lighting to help get the effect you wanted and good editing to get them just right. I even like the fact that the sky is somewhat featureless here. A lot of color or clouds in the sky would have detracted, I think, from your main subject.

I'm not a big fan of this border. I don't think it's too bad, but I also don't think it really adds anything to the photo.

Overall, I think it's a quality shot which shows creativity and skill at your photography. Good job!

I hope you find this critique helpful!

You have great photography skills! Glad to see you use them, this is great work, keep it up :-)

I am pleased to see this did not receive any protest votes (1's or 2's) due to religious content!

Nice take and well shot. Thumb on the right looks artificially large though.

It's from the Sistine Chapel:

Although technically, it doesn't depict the creation of Adam, but rather the point at which he is imbued with life or soul or whatever ... if God had ever done that before you could call him the Re-Animator ....

Great work labuda. Great to see your photography doing so well. So close to getting your ribbons back. I'm sure you'll have plenty very soon. Gave this a 10. Going in my favorites.

This is great work and I would have loved to see a blue ribbon on it :)

Well done and the idea to base it on classical art is excellent here.

extra point for a very creative idea -- well executed.

Sensational and very clever use of light.

If this picture doesn´t win, then there´s something very wrong with the voting. It´s just perfect, hard to believe it´s real
04/24/2004 02:49:55 PM

Wow, this should be a painting!
04/22/2004 01:03:50 PM
Nice depiction of the hand of god. Simple but strong composition. I think it would have been more powerful taken later in the day, or with more billowing like clouds in the background, but these things are not always within our control. Good Luck, Todd. 7.

Very Nice. Great idea.

I can't really describe how much I like this photo in 'words'. I am quite familiar with the Michelangelo work and this particular element of it is a strong focal point for me. I wish I had thought of something like this on my own. It would fit well as the '7th' photo in the 'creation' series that I'm working on....Phenomenal work... = 10

I also like to put 'best of show' on one photo in each challenge, and this is that one for this week... kudos :)

Stunning. Great idea, perfecty executed.
04/19/2004 08:27:02 PM
you have the hands almost identical to the painting!!wow!
04/19/2004 06:11:27 PM
Very creative. Great example of silhouette. Composition is also very strong. The glimmer of light between the two fingers is briliant (not meant as a pun).
04/19/2004 04:52:30 PM
great conept.....
The background is a little posterized but overall good job.
04/19/2004 03:53:30 PM
I hope you score high if not a ribbon. Beautiful shot. I even like the border, it helps give continuity to the light at the center. How were you able to get the light to work while shooting directly into it though? I've tried but it comes out too bright or too obscure. Anyway, 10 from me.
04/19/2004 01:23:40 PM
Verry clever idea and nice entry. I've just started scoring this challenge but I like yours very much. Well done!
04/19/2004 12:36:47 PM
Unique shot...nice job!
04/19/2004 10:41:42 AM
The hands are positioned just perfect. Great sky to suite it.

Neat photo
04/19/2004 09:14:50 AM
'Creative' shot. :) I really do like this, I hope others will, and you do well with it.
Good idea, done well. Bravo.
04/19/2004 09:07:35 AM
Nice "s curve" of the hands. Good positioning of the models' fingers.
04/19/2004 04:16:51 AM
Very classy indeed. This is one of the two I have seen so far who I believe may well win ;) (10)
04/19/2004 03:36:49 AM
excellent!!

I love it, top 10 I hope (though the bad news is, those that I ussually predict for top 10 rarely get there, not sure if its my fault...)
04/19/2004 02:43:39 AM
Great Creative idea!
04/19/2004 12:45:32 AM
Lovely idea, creative and fun too!
