Sprinkled water (so the sugar would stick), then sugar on a daylily to attract the ants. Worked pretty well. Actually I have a picture of another flower (I sprinkled several) with way more ants but I like the colors and swirls better on this one.
Played with an extension tube to get better detail. Had to bump up the ISO but I'm pretty happy with the resulting DOF and I didn't have to crop as much.
Not expecting a great score because there are bound to be lovely, enticing photos that appeal to people way more than a bunch of ants eating sugar. But it's not as gross as having them swarming over something I might want to eat!
PP - converted from RAW, cropped, dodged a tiny bit on foreground ants, cloned out hair from dirty lens (d'oh), increased saturation on lower left pink bits, dodged/burnt/blurred parts of background more, added border, resized, sharpened with noise reduction. |
