I put a lot of thought into this photograph and a couple of the comments made reflect that it didn’t really come through for some people. The stature is of Marcus Aurelius, the last of the greatest Roman emperors. I took the photograph from below looking up to signify the power of the individual. I also placed the subject mildly off balance, falling backwards, because Aurelius was the last emperor before we see the backslide of Rome. Also, I did not include Aurelius’ head because I wanted the picture to symbolize the Empire, hence the title, not just the figurehead. The belt and breastplate show many symbols of victories in battle as well as symbols of the empire (the eagles). I’m sorry all of this didn’t come across, you have to be mildly familiar with the subject for it to jump out at you.

Very impressive composition. Leaving the face out was a good decision in representing the power of the culture that made it (if that was your intention, as I believe it was), and not the personage of the sculpture. Also, B&W here definitely brings it to me. Nothing I see to nitpick here.

Probably the best statue picture I've seen for this contest so far...very subtle, nice angle, very artistic. I love the focus on the hand, which is where the power truly lies. Beautiful picture.

I'm guessing this is a snapshot of a statue. Not terribly compelling

You'll probobly here some guff that this is no more than a photograph of someone elses art, but I think you've done a great job here. I like the crop, the tones, and the creative interpretation of the theme. 8
