 Last night, I hosted a dinner and took this photo as I was getting ready.

For appetizers I served crab salad in cucumber cups and a hot crab dip with crackers. This is one of the little appetizer plates with a cat spreader on an orange bamboo mat. The background is the chair draped with an African sarong.

This was such a quick shot, so I didn't fuss a long time and the DOF turned out to be this thin slice right through the middle of the photo - I kind of like that.

Interesting shot, with the shallow dof, you really command the eye to the orange mat.
Sounds like everything on the menu was delicious!

That lens can sure give some shallow DOF! I really like this, but IMO it would be a bit stronger without the thing on the plate. But what do I know? Appetizers here are Cheetos straight out of the bag.

I like it too, kind of makes a more prominent leading line to the plate, huh? And uhm... there's a cat in the shot ;)

Love the lighting and colors, composition is spot on as well.

still dont know wot the cat spreader is even easier to see like this ..
your dinner sounds amazing .. well the appetizers .. i'm wondering wot culinary delight you served for the main course .. i reckon the appetizers would have been enough for me .. i'm a small eater .. !!..:)
brilliant colours alicia .. that cat spreader has me intrigued .. !!.. if you tell me i'll probably wonder why i didnt realise .. but its 4.58am here in oz and i'm not the full quid .. !!:)

Love the contrasting ideas here:
the green plate on the orange of the bamboo and that you have a cat spreader for your crab appetizer - very clever.

I wish the DOF was just a little higher, but you already explained that it was a rushed shot.

Lesson learned? LOL now this is the pot calling the kettle black ;)
