 This is the dam at Lock 8 in Rotterdam, NY. These locks are part of the historic Erie Canal.

I had never been to this side of the river/lock, because I usually go by bike, and the bike path is on the other side. So it was my first time "there" and fun to try a new angle. (Though actually, I haven't shot much at this lock anyway, it's much further from my house than Lock 7, and I don't like carrying my SLR on the bike!)

I actually don't know if they do any electrical generation from this dam, but if not, they sure should, because the water movement is raw power.

Thanks everyone for your votes and kind words! I was excited to pick up my second blue ribbon!

congratz. excellent photo. i don't like the "film" framing, especially those white lines and the vignetting is tad too strong. i love everyhing else :-)

Congrats on the ribbon on this great shot. I love the sharpness, colors, clouds and sun behind the bridge. It's unlikely this is a hydro-electric generating dam, since the water is freely flowing over the top rather than being redirected to turbines like Hoover Dam.
