I think this will be my best entry yet. I have a new outlook on entering challenges after about a 4 year break. I have no interest in trying to please the masses anymore. I am taking pictures for me and me alone. If a couple of you like some of my stuff, some of the time I would be very pleased. But I think I have a style now and I’m going to stick to my guns. Criticisms are always welcome and always considered helpful.

This entry is first try at some "Self Portraits" I'm going to guess that most will think this is a little overexposed. But I got what I was looking for. Frank Millers Sin City was my inspiration I don’t think many will get it and that’s OK! Wanted to retry for the white bandage look after my first shoot but ran out of time.

Taken in my basement with my D300, sigma 105, and little Opus Kit in Interval Timer mode. Took 4 sets of 10 pics at different distances. Adjusted in Lightroom, basically -100 saturation on all but red and orange and dropped master saturation down around 30. Adjusted exposure and brightness to keep clipping to a minimum.

Thanks for reading if you made it to here. Scott

There is alot to talk about in this shot. You have a very good tonal range from the shadows on the hands to the higher key areas near the face and shoulder. It (IMO) adds alot of interest when there is that amount of contrasts in the photo.

The composition is good. The postioning of the hands on the vertical 3rds and having the head tilted/arched so as not to feel centered and flat really adds a preception of depth to the photo.

I do feel you may have been hurt in the challenge like you said by the overexposed upper right area, and may have scored a bit better with a bit more control of the lighting. However, I do really like the processing that you have done with the photo, and the skin and pores of the face really pop in this shot.

Just a side note for if you try a similar shot again, I would also take off the ring on your right hand as it interupts the flow up the arms to the face (again IMO) and maybe try with a bit of the actual arm within the photo to also try to give depth.

If rage is what you were going for, this is spot on. I really like the harsh lighting and contrast. Very well done!
