I thought this was a funny twist on the idea of a crime scene, inspired, of course, by the film 'The Usual Suspects'.

Having read how to merge pictures together in photoshop elements and to then adjust the lighting conditions, I decided to try it with this entry.

Firstly the three images for the evidence were photographed and then printed onto paper to be added into the final scene.

For the final image, there are ten files in total, each with a different lighting focus: The whole picture, from the left, right, lighting the dead tomato, and lighting each of the vegetables. One picture on its own is quite flat, so the combination of multiple pictures worked a treat.

Each file was imported into a layer in elements. My wooden floor wasn't as steady as I hoped, so all of the files had to be jiggled around slightly to put the files into direct alignment with eah other (still wasn't perfect). The levels for all but one of the layers was adjusted to spotlight just the area of interest. All layers were viewed in 'screen' mode to allow overlapping of all the layers. Most layers had the lighting and highlights adjusted, some layers (left, right, dead tomato) had a hue / saturation adjustment to introduce a slight colouring of the light.

The layers were flattened, and then some sharpening applied.

I am really encouraged by the fantastic comments people left me, including some personally well respected photographers.
My first picture rated above 6.0, fantastic, thank you all!
I hope I can continue with good ideas and learn from the many amazing photos that I see everyday.

Considering the current Salmonellosis outbreak in tomatoes, this shot could have another interpretation like, conspiracy against tomatoes.
one of my favorites in the challenge.

humorous.. If I'm being nitpicky, I'd say there are too many shadows... lineups tend to have that glaring look to them...

Cute idea. I like the slight diagonal in the hieght marks. You may score lower for having a photo of a line-up rather of the crime scene, but who knows how voters choose to vote.

Very creative. Great lighting. I don't understand why the material in the front on the table is slightly out of focus. Great picture.

The most original thing I've seen in the challenge so far!! I love the scene photos and particularly the footprints. Even the lighting looks harsh like a lineup. Brilliant work!

Lots of work in this one - good job. I like the assorted veggies. The cucumber stands out because it is tilting. A larger variety of non cylindrical veggies would have been nice. The light on the broccoli is a tad harsh and causing distracting shadows.
