I really, really like this photo, Sarah. This is one of those images where you shouldn't be concerned with the score, because it is so arty and exquisite. That said - I just looked at most of the challenge, and though there are many excellent submissions, I'm mystified as to why yours did not score higher. As you mentioned, the commenters' votes provide an enormous gap to the general votes.
Soldier on! With the ability to create such beautiful art, you are really onto something that is beyond this one website.
I'll email you tomorrow morning - off to bed now!

| I know it's high contrast, but this just needs color - a rosebud is too beautiful to put into greyscale. Nice focus and line and I'll still give it a 7! |

| This has to be one of my favorite shots on this challenge. I absolutly love the texture. Its a very simple shot, yet very powerful. I can see how you raised the contrast, althoug I wish (for the challenge) it was a bit higher. Still, great work! 10 (my only one so far) |

| You will likely gets lots of love or hate on the border--I tend to ignore the borders unless they are garish and utterly inappropriate--which this one is not. I REALLY Like this image! Beautifully composed, exposed, processed, but you also have worked multiple forms of contrast into this image: light and dark across the entire image, superb local contrast on the bud itself, sharp/soft-bokeh contrast. The focal point and DOF choice here is superb as well. 10 |
