More practice with my old zoom lens. I think I may be getting the hang of it again! This Bohemian Cedar Waxwing (Thanks Julianne) was nicely waiting at the top of this dead tree for me to figure out how to focus my lens.

Another bird that I have never had the pleasure of catching myself. I like the pose and the nice shade of blue of the sky.

Been looking at your re-edit, and have to say it was a good idea. You must have been quite a distance to get this shy one. Serious bird with the mask and all. Nice pose, light and colour.

What? I always thought these were female cardinals! Having just compared your picture to actual female cardinals I am wrong =( I've taken a few shots of birds like this and just always assumed what they were. Thanks for teaching me something! Very pretty birds.

I'm pretty sure this is a Cedar Waxwing. I can't see the wings, but the breast is buff colored rather than slate, and there is a touch of white above the black marking on the face.

References: Cedar Waxwing, and Bohemian Waxwing.

They are such beautiful birds, you are lucky to have the opportunity to photograph them.

Pretty bird; I have seen Cedar Waxwings around here but only from a great distance. One of these days maybe I'll get lucky and find on within range of my telephoto lens.

I agree with the others and the composition suggestions and detail in the eyes, a beautiful little fellow you captured here though.

This has great light. I try to frame animals and people "looking" toward the center of the image. In this case, swing a little to the right, or crop to have the bird not looking out of the frame.
It's interesting to see and learn about all the different birds from far off places in this side challenge.
ETA Oops, I see that Jedusi has already said this after I posted.

Handsome looking chap - love his crest.

I wonder whether with a bit of spot editing you could recover his eye a bit more ?
they make such a difference to a picture.

Also, although the branches make very nice diagonals across the picture, they don't contribute that much (he is clearly the star) and as he is actually looking out of the shot I might have been tempted to try a squarer crop to throw the focus back onto him more and so increase his prominence in the closer crop. Just my view though :- )

p.s. Lovely blue sky.
