An ant making off with the nectar from a small compound flower. This was shot using a manual focus Nikkor 16mm fisheye and a Vivitar close focusing 2X telextender. That combo will focus right to the front element of the lens. By the lens being a wide fisheye, the DOF is big, even at this magnification factor. The lens was touching the flower when I shot this. It's noisy looking because the original file was very dark. The noise looks like canvas, so I left it that way.

Existing light, with monopod. The flower that the ant is on is a little smaller than an ordinary pencil eraser.

Reminds me of jmritz's technique. Nice work.

I agree, the noise does give it a canvas look. I really like the softness of this. Hard to believe that flower is really so small!

I like the look the noise gives this shot. You're right it does look like canvas. Nice coloure combinations and amazing detail to be able to see the pinchers on the ant.

Very good edit. You did a great job bringing out the subdued colouring of the original.

You certainly did bring out an amazing amount of color and detail based on that before image! Hard to believe you got that with a MONOPOD! I agree, there is a lot of noise, but you already knew that. Comes down to artistic preference right?

I love the colors you brought out- amazing & vibrant- interesting how you got this & also think the noise looks like an overlay & is nice :)

Interesting way of achieving the shot! I always find it difficult to get a nice macro capture with my monopod, very nicely done!

Amazing shot. Love the colors. I like the grain (noise), too.

Great detail and interesting approach to getting the shot. I've tried the reversed 50mm trick on a zoom but this sounds like it might have a little more margin for error that would make focussing easier.

Love the light and focus and the bright colors. Your comments are very interesting too. I'm not much of a stickler for noise, but in this case I think Neat Image would improve the image.

I like the colors and the soft feel of this shot though I do agree that it looks a bit noisey.

Interesting way to get the macro shot. The colours are fantastic, though there seems to be quite a lot of noise which is surprising at 200 ISO. I tried noise ninja on it and it worked a treat
