My daughter Lindsay and I went out for a bicycle ride this evening. At a rest stop along the Trinity River, she climbed up on top of a metal sign that holds a map of the riverside facilities. Knowing a good shot when I see one, I pulled out the camera, then she started hamming it up and I got her against the sunset.

Lindsay did a lot today. She went to opening day of the pool at the YMCA, played with her niece and nephew, and then went riding with me. We went out for Chinese food afterwards and "Today was a good day" is something she said to me several times over dinner. I thought it was the perfect title.

Lindsay turns 18 on Tuesday the 28th, so happy birthday, squirt!

Pre-challenge notes:
I expect to get dinged on a couple of technicals. In particular, the way her leg sticks out, it is difficult to tell what she is doing and what she is on top of. I wanted to get a deeper blue sky behind her, but was unable to so within basic rules without messing up other elements. I think it's a great shot, and will be one of my personal favorites, regardless of how well it scores.

Post-Challenge notes:
I expected many would not consider this a portrait, and I have the DNMC comments to prove it. I think it did pretty well for a shoehorn, and the comments lead me to believe it woudl have done a fair amount better if not for the DNMC. You have to admit that it does have a lot of the elements that usually contribute to a high score around here!

Here's an alternate view. I actually prefer the reflective mood of this one, but the clouds behind her head were a problem.

Nice silhouette of a powerful woman. It makes me think "Helen Reddy". Love the sky and clouds. However, I am not sure I would call it a portrait. Stunning photo.

This is one of my favorite shots of the challenge. I would like to see a bit tighter crop on the top and right side would help.

A good shot but I don't think a silhouette can be considered a portrait by definition.

Impressive shot, I like it. But does it qualify as a portrait? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Not a portrait, but a silhouette. DNMC
