 I held a reflector against the tripod, stood in the shade with the reflector to reflect the light back on me.

Edit: Crop, gradient map to black and white, selective color adjustment underneath for tonal control, curves, slight shadows/highlights. Resize, sharpen and Save for the Web.

Score estimate: 6ish, maybe higher/lower depending on voter's thoughts on bushy eyebrows. hehehe

Post challenge: So close to top 5!! Very happy with this finish and comments. I am happy Louis got the blue, his studio portrait work is top notch and you should all take a look.
I saw some of grigrigirl's photos she uploaded from when she was 18, I wanted to do something to have to look back at with no frills.

Excellent, Joe. Like Louis, you are extremely adept at using light and at self-portraits. Pleased to see this do well, but it really should have beat out that kid in the oversized coat. :-)

I really thought this would be in the top 5 easily. Yours was my 2nd choice for top image in the challenge (next to Louis of course). Great light, great DOF and detail. Top notch image all around.
