It's hard to figure out what this is (an animal obviously, but beyond that...) and I think you're losing some of your viewers. Bringing more of your subject out of the shadows and/or composing or framing it differently would have helped.

Definetely has the dappled light. This was probably tough anglewise for the head in terms of capture and exposure.

I like the composition here and the limited colour scheme. I like they way you leave something for the viewer imagination. That makes a difference between a good photo or a postcard. I can see a bit of grain in the upper part of the image, but only under a certain angle so it may be my LCD. Very, very fresh idea.
