For those that are wondering and have asked - this is a Oriental Lily (Lilium) Monan Lisa flower preparing to open. Hopefully I won't ruin it for anyone, but this was shot in the studio. For Mother's Day all the great flowers were gone and all we could find were these - all still closed up. It took over a week for them to open and when they began to do so they were amazing. As others have mentioned, it almost looked like something from a scary movie. So, I drug one down to the studio, along with several tubs of these branch things that the wife has all over the place. I call them booby-traps as they grab me wherever I go. One set of these branch things are behind the lilly and one set are in front and off to the right side. I then shot my 580EX II (off camera) through the front set of branches to get the dappled light. A reflector was also used on the left to fill in the shadow area a little. Thanks for all of the comments. |

Every time I see this image, I keep wondering - is this an orchid bud?
edit: Thank you for the clarification. The folds on the edge of the petals and the way they are tucked in there, plus your unique angle made this, yes, very mysterious. A very unique image.

kinda subversive, also has a "feed me, Seymour!" look too. :-) But I try to block that last, and just enjoy how beautiful this is. |

This is one of my very favorites of the challenge...so supple and fleshy. My only wish if for a bit more room on the right...not much, just a bit so we see the whole lily, not just most of it. |

This is very cool, erotic and difficult to identify. Good use ofd tones however Mona Lisa may not have ever been so brazen. ;-) Good luck! |

Wow, a very feminine shot. Could be a little less blurry/soft focus for my taste. |

Interesting image, looks like an orchid bud. Tones work well. Can't help wonder about it not cropped so tight on the right. Nice unique image. Nice light too. |

Unusual shape. Well... I would say it is quite erotic ;) Very elegant. B&W suits it. I also like diagonal composition. I would try to use bigger DOF to catch the detail on the far end of the flower to enhance it's definition. Very nice entry. |

I love this shot. The lighting you chose as well as some possible soft focus filtering really lends a sense of softness and calm to the shot. I also really like that you chose to use B&W. |

This photograph has a nice range of values and the flower in the middle contrasts with the negative space. The soft focus also makes the photograph stronger. |
