Challenge: Portrait of a Camera (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: 2008
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Location: Home window
Date: May 18, 2008
Aperture: F13, F5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200, 5
Date Uploaded: May 18, 2008

Combining two captures of the same scene. One with flash on, focused on the camera, while the other being a 5 seconds exposure, focused on the clouds. The camera was hung off of the window using a nylon string (one can actually see it if one knows what to look for).

Editing steps:
In dcraw: adjust exposure.
In The Gimp: open as layers. blend the two images based on color (the sky in the first image is much darker than the camera black body). Desat using Channel Mixer. Selective sharpening. Add border. Scale, USM.

another very interesting image indeed. the blur and the deep sharpness contrast very well, and i love the depth of tone.

Interesting, although the processing is kind of otherworldly and the camera doesn't seem to flow well with the background.

Looks a lot like a UFO. I like the black and white on this, but the lighting on the camera gives it kind of an eerie, otherworldly feel (hence my UFO reference)

My problem with this is editing. I can still see the strap, so the effect of the camera just floating in the sky is lost. Either you need more editing to completely get rid of it, or you can just let it be...show off the strap as well as the camera. Still well done and nice creative idea.

Nice shot, good background. I never thought about left handed cameras, but it makes sense. Are they hard to find?

I don't care for the straps being faintly visible. Either have them there or not.

Is that two bits of 'something' I can say dangling from the sky holding the camera up? I do like the detail in the camera and the little starburst on the bottom left is quite cool, however, the sky is very distracting. A better background would have made this a stronger image. This is just my humble opinion :o)
