Wow, thanks a lot everybody for the kind words, the comments and the award nomination, they are a great encouragement for me.
I must say that I am not 100% satisfied of this one, because the concept is quite ok, composition is a bit scholastic but acceptable; what I don't like is the light and the overall quality of the picture, I wanted it more luminous, more contrasted, the subject more "present" in the picture. Next time I'll do a better job.
Windtale spotted exactly what I had in mind in doing this shot, the character Molly Million that appears in various novels written by William Gibson (Neuromancer, Mona Lisa Overdrive, Burning Chrome); she had her vision enhanced with the insertion of Zeiss-Ikon lenses in her eye sockets; the name of the company was readable in tiny letters subtly worked into the patterning around each iris. The lens I used fot this photo is actually a 50mm zeiss ikon tessar 2,8 (unfortunately the compressed version of the photo does not allow to read the name of the manufacturer on the lens, but it is there and I know it ;-) ) taken from an 1936 Contax II, that appears dismantled in the hands of the "razor girl".
Really thanks a lot everybody again.

I'm glad this finished in the top ten - it is a great image.
It reminds me a little of the 'Borg' in Star Trek . . |

Completely outstanding image. Love the feel you've created with the highkey lighting. Tres futuristic. This really should have been among the top three, but even so, I'm glad it placed where it did.

I feel like the camera is a prop, not a subject. However, this is a very unique, interesting, and captivating photo, and I really love it. |

Funny idea - reminds me partly of Terminator I and Gottfried Helnwein. Unusual interpretation of the theme, but I like it. |

really like the envelope stretching idea, just a bit distracted by the wood grain tabletop, for me it fit the sterile 'techno' feel |

My wife says to give this the benefit of the doubt... as to whether it is a portrait of a camera or not. 9 |
