 this shot was pretty lucky considering how the working distance for my lens is ridiculously short (a centimeter or so) but the fly didn't seemed to mind and stayed on the same plant for a long time. the red background is actually a flower behind the fly.

the soft focus effect is achieved through a series of curves and faded gaussian blur. really wish I could clone out the blemishes on the leaf though

Nice colors, the softening has worked well with this image - like the translucent wing well placed over the abdomen.
