This image was taken from some dissused houses that line the Edge Lane, a main road that enters Liverpool town centre from outside. Its quite an interesting set of old houses (of around 200 houses or so) that have been repossessed by the council as part of a road widening scheme and neighbourhood regeneration. I like them because many of the houses are boarded up with decorative art to signify the European Capital of Culture status given to Liverpool for the year 2008. At the same time, they typify so many houses in Liverpool that are no longer used and boarded up (and I mean a lot of houses!), even though in my eyes they are fantastic examples of victoria achitecture. This is why my title of "a Forgotten Glorious Heritage" is used, to signify how the future is looked upon in an economically growing city, that at the same time, rightly or wrongly, is trying to forget its problems of the past.
This image was opened and adjusted as a RAW file into P. Elements 5. A transform to improve the perspective was applied, follwed by rotation and then a crop. The green board sections were cut out and pasted into other layers, before adding a levels and gradient map adjustment layer to turn the house into a black and white image. Some dodging and burn was applied to some areas of the house. Finally a black and white border was added. |

To me, there's something about the pea green/yellow color that... "fights" against the black & white of the rest of your image. Also, that little bit of window in the upper left detracts and takes my focus away from the main area. |

I don't know what colour the bricks are. But I imagine that if they are red they will make an interesting combination with the yellow. |
