I centered the sun so as not to get the tell-tale glare. I then cropped the photo. I channel mixed to black and white. maybe some levels. resize. USM.

look at the 6-pointed flare, done without a filter!

I'm impressed with your clever six pointed no filter star! I'm drawn to the distant branches - those that get to frolic in the sun while the leaves closer seem to be missing out on the fun.

I absolutely love the sun coming through the leaves like this. I actually tried a similar set up but with a blooming tree. Not as nice as this. For me, I'd like a tighter crop without the limbs in the left upper corner. But that is just me. Great detail and lovely conversion.

When I saw this I thought it would get a posthumous ribbon...I guess being a posthumous shot is even better. The abstraction of the leaves is lovely and that sun star is just too darn clever of you.

This picture has a nice range of values and the overlapping pattern of the leaves is very balanced. The use of negative space and positive space does not take away fromt he focus on the sun, which is brilliant.

I am not a person that takes BW but your image seems like it could have been a winner with this concept.
The sun (star effect) needed to be larger or at least more of the image.
