I see that you are new here at DPC, so first, welcome to the digital madness. This is a nice night shot and a good score for your first challenge entry. A couple of things have been mentioned that could be improved. The first thing that I noticed being a little off, is the camera moved a bit, which may be because of wind, or just not a stable enough place to keep the camera still. I see that you were at a restaurant, which explains that you didn't have a tripod in your pocket LOL..
I have found that about 6 to 10 sec, and about f 5.6 or 8 works great for lightning shots at night.
Keep shooting and have fun with the new XTi.

Good grab (of the lightning). Your horizon is tilted though. |

Your horizon is a bit crooked. But a cool photo! |

Well done to capture the lighting! The tilted horizon is offputting though. |

nice catch of lightning... looks like a hand held shot though so the motion blur kinda hurts it. oh well pretty exciting to catch though.. |

love the dramatic sky, just need to watch the level of the horizon, maybe get a hotshoe mounted spirit level, it has helped me |
