Let´s be honest. The background is terrible, the lightning seems not very good and it seems to lack a litle saturation and maybe more contrast. The angel is good but shallower DOF would have made this better, that is if you had only had the mainsubject in focus but blurr out the background and maybe some of the chessmen. It´s my expirence that people dont find it very creative to put toy´s into some situation for photography under normal sircumstances. But we are here to learn so continue to experiment and dont give up.

background sheet needs to absolutely spotless.. lighting is a bit too harsh.

Nice idea, I like it! However, the lighting seems a bit too harsh and creating sharp shadows and glare, also the dark spots on the background are distracting. Perhaps a more indirect lighting approach and a more out of focus background would help.

clear shot, but... lacks composition...

Nice shot - meets the challenge, and well composed, but I think the overall image is let down by the background. Maybe you could have used a shallower DOF to blur the background, or had a more plain/white sheet closer to the board?
Still - well done. Better than a lot of the other chess shots

The holes or spots in your back drop take away from the photo. It draws your eye to the wrong place.

Good imagination and the placement is also good but the lighting is harsh and the black spots in the backround are distracting.

Good, but the background!

Good use of DOF. Light is good too. Focus seems good, too.

your backdrop is covered in stains and has wrinkles and creases that catch my eye, drawing me away from the subject.
