 There are times when you've taken a shot you're just so pleased with that you have to submit it, simply in terms of exhibiting the thing: tantamount to saying 'look at this, you lot' - even though one knows that few will see it the same way I do myself.

This has a number of connections with other photos I've submitted here. Firstly it's taken on the same day as the 'deisgn and engineering' shot, and is intended to be a part of the same series of shots - see the notes on that shot if you're interested. Secondly, it also serves as something of a companion piece to the 'shadows' entry, in that it's evolved from the same theories of composition. Like that shot, it's technically pretty straightforward - its abstract quality comes more from its oddness than from any camera tricks (though here there's the over-exposed shape bottom right to deal with). I haven't formulated these ideas of composition fully yet - though I think they're to do with a sense of the weight of compositional elements, and with a balance of that weight, than the traditional (and simplistic) idea of 'thirds' and the process of the eye through the frame.

Another thing I like here is that there are two vanishing points - inside the frame if you follow the lines of the bridge supports and the sunlight, and another off-frame if you follow the lines of the banks of the canal.

Submitted in the hope that some of those people whose opinions I crave see something in it too.

Very exciting point of view! The leading lines really suck me in. The very bright corner down right distracts me just a little, but I still really enjoy the image.

I love the effect that the reflection gives. I took me a while to realize that it wasn't a sky and actually a reflection. - 10

this is such a beautiful diagonal lines shot, too bad that its too much light in the bottom right corner it would of been perfect without it. I'm not one of those obsessing with the word "overexposed" but it's too distracting. Verry well seen otherways.

There is too much of an extreme in lighting. The combination of the dark shades under the bridge and the bright direct light is too much for cameras to handle properly. As a result, the bright area is blown out. The subject itself is quite nice as an urban theme. Consider reshooting it on an overcast day.
