an orchid stem backlit with two flashes. This shot is an extension of the technique I used for my Pattern entry. I didn't have a white plastic background (translucent), so I had to use a blue one! Just took care of during the black and white layer. set-up had the blue plexiglass sitting on a stand made from PVC (just to get it off the floor). put a clear sheet of plastic on top to help compress the petals. two flashes underneath pointing up through the flowers (triggered with Cactus wireless).
PP - opened RAW in CS3, adjusting clarity, black point, and added a little sharpness here. Crop, hue/sat layer, black and white layer. Layer for curves, cloned out dust spots, big dose of USM at large radius to add local contrast. convert to grayscale, then duotone. burned a little around perimeter for vignette. resize, a little USM at small radius, gothic glow layer at 60%. added border. save for web |

I like this, very neat and clear. The bg is superb with the difference in tone at the corners. Lovely capture. |

without contrasting tones, the threshold between the flowers and the background needs to be -sharp-, which it isn't. USM would be very effective here. |

Nice image. The white on white does the flower no justice here, and the background is just to bright. |
