Got this shot on my lunch break near downtown St. Petersburg. This guy was a great subject. I love the pelicans down here, they are so amazing looking. I tried to capture the coolness of the blue water behind the pelican as well as the crisp, cool colors of the bird himself.

if the background was in focus it could have fuffiled the objective better.

there is no significant color in this picture, and the challenge is about color.

The bright blue of the water is nice but the bird's head looks a bit bleache out, maybe you shot this in a time of day were the light was at it's most intense and then this could have been fixed with a little patience to wait for the right light. (i guess the bird would fly away though...)

Nice capture, and very good pose you got him in, almost like he's enjoying his photo op! It's an interesting one, but the few things I think could be improved upon are that it is slightly overexposed, so the bird's head is blown out. I also would have left a little bit more space on the left side of the bird. The left-leaning composition makes the image appear, well, left-leaning, and makes it feel somewhat unbalanced.
