My quibble is with choice of focal point. It seems to be behind the eye, and slightly below the blue scales. I would suggest bringing more of the face into the focus, that's where most of the interesting patterns exist.

This guy is cool looking. A little better DOF would be nice, but that's a limitation where you probably already did the best you could with it.

Pattern or texture ? I have an open mind.. reasonably good shot but the halo is a distraction. Lighting could be improved. Also I can see some severe signs of oversaturation - need to be careful in your post processing IMO
