Saturation, crop, levels, etc.

Taken at Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia, Borneo. Tribesman (note the earlobes, stretched by bronze earrings) playing handmade xylophone. I thought this was interesting because of the modern elements, like his clothing, juxtaposed against the traditional.

After the fourth time looking at this, I figured it out. He is playing a marimba. That being said, I would never give a shot 4 looks at a store to figure out what was going on. Maybe 4 looks to really be sure I liked it, but not to figure out the story. In a gallary, I might spend some time, but I don't purchase from gallaries, I go to wander and look.

I look at his face and he seems very sad and/or bored with his activity. This being in profile, I can't tell if I am mistaking concentration for these other emotions. I think a different angle of shot, would have been better.

Try B&W, not too much contract here open up the F-Stop and get some of the background out

A tighter crop might have done this shot a little more justice. When it first loaded I thought "what is about to slam into his back?" If the frame had just included him and the instrument the viewer would feel a bit more connected to the subject.

Nicely done here. The background supports his environment well, and the colors/tones are very soothing.
