I'll comment before I read the other comments. I think the face is a bit dark, but because of the background, not the face on its own. My eye is drawn towards the dark area just to the left of his face, then to his face, and then it lingers on the brighter background. If the background were not as bright the face would probably be fine. As far the picture itself, you've captured a great smile, and I really like how he's sort of peeking out from beneath the hood.

Great processing job, like the way his in-focus eye stands out from the rest (and much more so than in the original image)

I love it! lbi must like it too cuz he's using it as his profile picture :) What a compliment.

It's so hard with all the different variations of monitors, and I don't necessarily think calibration makes a difference on light vs. dark monitors anywyay. My one at work is way dark even after I calibrate it -- but I think this is pretty much just right. It looks great here on my bright home monitor. At work, it may be just a smudge dark on the left side of the photo, but I really think it looks great.

He looks like such a nice guy.

Note to self: Go see if Deb's got any more GTG photos posted

Beautiful conversion and portrait angle. I like the focus on one eye.

I also like the way you have cropped this, and especially like the range of dark to light from left to right. The background also works very well here. I do agree with others that you could have used just a tad more DOF. Great portrait, regardless!

Very cool portrait and great for b&w. I aslo think a bit more DOf would be nice but this is still really nice!

Oh, oh, OH what a FABULOUS portrait. I love the strong concentration on one eye - his white eyelashes are so perfect - Deb this is MAGIC!

Very nice portrait. Perfect crop. I would like to see just a tad more depth of field. The edge of the hood and the eye closer to the camera is out of focus. But the out of focus tree in the background is amazing. Such a great pattern there.

I was looking at the London GTG photos - and your photos are exceptionally good, Deb. It was a joy looking at them.

This portrait jumped out at me - the crop is really inspired as well as the lighting. Love it. BW works very well, though the color version is good, too.

good portrait, good edit, completely legible - front cheek shadow detail fades appropriately to black/dark & color version looks correct on either of my technologically different but supposedly calibrated unmatched monitors.
